Lebanese Army Stops Hizbullah
Jerusalem Post, Lebanese troops prevent Hizbullah demonstration:
When I read this it shocked me. No one has confidence in the Lebanon army. Not Israel, not Lebanon, and not the rest of the world. It's a weak army usually surpassed in skill, strength, and supplies by local militias. It also religiously avoids conflict with Hizbullah. I still don't have confidence in the Lebanon army, but this appears to be a step in the right direction.
Lebanese troops prevented a group of Hizbullah supporters from holding a demonstration on the Israel-Lebanon border near the Fatma crossing on Wednesday.
Forces stopped several buses each carrying some 100 Hizbullah activists that were traveling towards the border.
Witnesses reported that the Lebanese troops blocked the route to the border with armored vehicles and, after an hour of negotiations with the Hizbullah supporters, allowed a small group of children to hang a banner with an insulting caricature of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on the border fence.
Lebanese troops stopping a Hizbullah demonstration is a positive thing, but the fact that they had to compromise with Hizbullah demonstrators is a testimony to how weak the Lebanon army really is. If this were the military in a strong country there would have been no compromise involving a terrorist group hanging up anti-American propaganda.
